In Conversation With Italian Architect Massimiliano Fuksas

The Consulate General of Italy, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the Emilio Goggio Chair in Italian Studies, University of Toronto and Azure, in collaboration with L’Altra Italia and ISSNAF Ontario, proudly present ITALY INSPIRES CANADA– AZURE Talks featuring Massimiliano Fuksas.

With a career spanning over 40 years, globally revered architect Massimiliano Fuksas has stacked his portfolio with more than 600 international projects that typify his unique and innovative vision.

Since founding his studio with his wife, Doriana Mandrelli Fuksas, over three decades ago, Studio Fuksas has become one of the most recognized architecture firms in the world. Based in Rome, the duo also has headquarters in Paris and Shenzhen, China, and their award-winning work can be found across Europe, Africa, America, Asia and Australia. The scale of their projects range in size and scope, and include museums, cultural centres, airports and urban interventions.

Plot

Fabiola and Lucia have hated each other since their first meeting. Though they are completely different from each other, they share a man in their life, Paolo, Lucia’s ex husband, now married to Fabiola.

When Paolo dies unexpectedly, he leaves behind little Paolino, a half Chinese boy, whose existence had been kept secret from the women.

Lucia and Fabiola, though still overwhelmed by resentment, are forced to come closer.They must find a way to put aside their enmity and personal disagreements to raise the child together. They will find themselves inadequate in their new role as mothers, but will embark in a journey of self-discovery, growing fonder and fonder of little Paolino.

Eventually they will join forces to obtain full custody of the child.

Trama

Fabiola e Lucia si odiano da quando si conoscono. Non potrebbero essere più diverse, ma le accomuna un uomo, Paolo, che è stato il marito di Lucia ed è l’attuale marito di Fabiola.

Quando Paolo scompare lasciando in eredità il piccolo Paolino, un bimbo per metà cinese del quale entrambe le donne ignoravano l’esistenza, Lucia e Fabiola, anche se ancora animate dall’antico astio, dovranno necessariamente tentare di mettere da parte le proprie divergenze personali, frequentarsi e trovare il modo di coesistere.

Benché inadeguate al nuovo ruolo di madri, iniziano un viaggio dentro se stesse e finiranno presto per affezionarsi al piccolo, tanto da dovere unire le forze per ottenere l’affido del piccolo Paolo, che ha ormai fatto breccia nei loro cuori.

Plot

Gegè, a fading pop singer, is invited to a tour in Uruguay, where thirty years before he had performed obtaining an astounding success.

Not having enough money for the flight, he boards a ship and meets Ruggero, a loner cook who hasn’t touched ground for the last four years.

The two feel an immediate dislike for each other and, as an act of spite, Ruggero locks Gegè in the refrigerator.

Due to this occurrence, Gegè’s voice suddenly fades and he is diagnosed with a block of his vocal chords. Feeling responsible, Ruggero pretends to be the singer himself.

From then on, the destinies and the lives of these strangers, united by the same desire for redemption, will intertwine in surprising ways.

Trama

Gegè, cantante in crisi economica e di popolarità, riceve un invito per ritornare in Uruguay, dove trenta anni prima si era esibito con successo.

Non avendo denaro sufficiente per il volo aereo, si imbarca come passeggero su una nave, dove incontra Ruggero, cuoco solitario che non scende a terra da quattro anni.

Da subito scatta una istintiva antipatia: per dispetto Ruggero chiude Gegè nella cella frigorifera. Questo incidente causa a Gegè un improvviso abbassamento della voce.

A Montevideo, Gegè viene visitato e la prima diagnosi accerta un blocco delle corde vocali. Sentendosi responsabile, Ruggero finge con l’organizzazione di essere lui il cantante.

Da questo momento, i destini e le vite dei due uomini, accomunati dallo stesso desiderio di rinascita, si intrecceranno.

Plot

The De Martino family have always had motor oil and gasoline flowing in their veins: they have been putting together and racing cars for generations.

Mario, the head of the family, is forced to give way to his very young and exceptionally talented daughter Giulia.

She is joined by her 40 year old brother Loris, a former driver, totally unreliable, but with an extraordinary sense of trajectories and highly knowledgeable about engines.

Together, they will have to return to the track and win, while escaping their demons and learning what it means – and hard it is – to be a family.

Trama

Nelle vene della famiglia De Martino scorrono da sempre olio motore e benzina. Preparano auto da corsa e crescono piloti da generazioni.

Mario, il capofamiglia, sarà costretto a lasciare il posto alla giovanissima figlia Giulia, un talento eccezionale, affiancata dal fratello Loris, ex pilota quarantenne totalmente inaffidabile, ma con una straordinaria conoscenza di traiettorie e preparazione dei motori. Insieme saranno obbligati a tornare in pista e vincere, fuggendo dai loro demoni e imparando cosa significhi e quanto sia difficile essere una famiglia.

Plot

Francesco and Claudia are best friends. Francesco is an awkward and funny criminal lawyer and Claudia is a French-Italian vet, as exuberant and free-spirited as she is beautiful.

There are no secrets between them. They share everything, and have fun together like children. Claudia even has the keys to Francesco’s apartment, and comes and goes as she pleases!

But when Claudia meets Giovanni, a forest ranger who is completely taken with her and soon wins her love, Francesco finds himself forced to deal with unexpected discomfort and jealousy.

Soon, this begins to affect their relationship, forcing the question: can men and women really be just friends?

Tra loro non ci sono segreti, ma quando nella vita di Claudia arriva Giovanni e lei decide di sposarlo, Francesco si accorge che l’amicizia fra uomo e donna è più complicata del previsto.

C’era una volta un regno, anzi tre regni vicini e senza tempo, dove vivevano, nei loro castelli, re e regine, principi e principesse.

Un re libertino e dissoluto. Una principessa data in sposa ad un orribile orco. Una regina ossessionata dal desiderio di un figlio.

Accanto a loro maghi, streghe e terribili mostri, saltimbanchi, cortigiani e vecchie lavandaie sono gli eroi di questa libera interpretazione di tre delle celebri fiabe tratte da Il Racconto dei Racconti di Giambattista Basile.

Plot

Alex and Dino are two renowned plastic surgeons, at ease with changing their patients’ faces with few, precise touches. Leo and Cosimo are two clumsy cops on the trail of a powerful mob whose face is unknown.

It is just by sheer luck that they will manage to take a photo of his real face, forcing him to call on the surgeons to make him look like Leonardo di Caprio.

Unfortunately for the boss, they will misunderstand his orders.

All characters will stumble into each other’s lives, each trying to ‘save face’, in a comedy full of surprises, plot twists and laughter.

Il film racconta la storia di Alex e Dino, due affermati chirurghi plastici abituati a cambiare i connotati dei loro pazienti con pochi e delicati colpi di bisturi.

Leo e Cosimo invece sono due maldestri poliziotti sulle tracce di un pericoloso e potente boss di cui nessuno conosce il volto.

È solo per caso che riescono a fotografare il criminale, che si rivolgerà ai due chirurghi per assumere le fattezze di Leonardo Di Caprio. Purtroppo per lui, Alex e Dino faranno confusione…

Tutti i personaggi inciamperanno l’uno nella vita dell’altro, in una commedia piena di equivoci, colpi di scena e grandi risate, in cui ognuno alla fine cercherà di… salvare la faccia.

Plot

Finance ministers from the richest countries in the world have gathered together in a secluded luxury hotel in Germany for a meeting that may decide the future of the world.

Bizarrely, three outside observers have also been invited to attend: a rock star, the famous children’s novelist Claire Seth and the Italian monk and author Roberto Salus.

Following a tragic event, the meeting is suspended, and a battle between the Ministers and the monk ensues, as they believe Salus was revealed a top-secret information during a confession.

While Salus remains the stubborn defender of the secrecy of confessions, the authorities are overwhelmed by doubts and uncertainties.

Trama

In un albergo di lusso sta per riunirsi un G8 dei Ministri dell’ economia dei paesi più ricchi, in cui stanno essere varate delle misure dale gravi conseguenze.

Nell’ albergo vi sono anche altri tre ospiti: una celebre scrittrice di libri per bambini, una rock star e un Monaco italiano, Roberto Salus.

In seguito ad un fatto tragico la riunione viene sospesa: tra i Ministri e il monaco viene ingaggiata una sfida serrata, poiché le autorità credono che il Monaco sia venuto a sapere qualcosa di segreto nel corso di una confessione.

Mentre Salus custodisce con fermezza quanto appreso in confessione, gli uomini di potere vengono assaliti da dubbi e incertezze.
