Plot

The Stuff of Dreams recounts the vicissitudes of a modest theatrical troupe castaway off the coast of a remote Mediterranean island together with dangerous members of the Camorra. From this premise develops a comedy full of plot twists, inspired by William Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Eduardo De Filippo’s Neapolitan translation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece, all set amongst the pristine scenery of the island of Asinara.

Plot

Plot

The film follows the events of the disaster of Ustica which took place on June 27th, 1980, the causes of which have not been established and which remain the source of controversy, decades after their occurrence. On June 27, 1980, the commercial flight Douglas DC-9 en route from Bologna to Palermo exploded mid-air above the islands of Ustica and Ponza, leaving no survivors. Thirty five years later, Ustica remains one of the most painful mysteries of Italy. There are three causes which have been put forth: Structural failure of the plane, a bomb on board, and a missile.

On June 10, 1940, Prime Minister Mackenzie King announced the detainment and internment of Italian-Canadians considered a threat to the safety of our country. Under the guidelines of the War Measures Act, the RCMP were given freedom to arrest any person with ties to an Axis nation without proof of tahreat, disloyalty, or subversion to our government. Out of 150,000 immigrated and Canadian born Italian-Canadians, 30,000 were listed as “enemy aliens” and over 700 were interned in camps. Some interned men lost sons fighting in the war, others enlisted in the war for Canada once released.

Plot

Zanasi, dopo aver studiato filosofia all’università di Bologna, si è iscritto a corsi per scrittori e ad un corso di cinema insegnato da Nanni Moretti. Ha frequentato il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia a Roma, dove nel 1992 si è laureato in regia. Il suo debutto alla regia è con il cortometraggio Le belle prove, che ha vinto un premio al Film Festival di Torino.

Tommaso (Marco Giallini), la cinquantaine, est un chirurgien affirmé. Gauchistes quelque peu en rupture d’idéal, Tommaso et son épouse Carla (Laura Morante) ont élevé leur fille Bianca (Ilaria Spada) et leur fils Andrea (Enrico Oetiker) dans un esprit de laïcité et d’engagement.

Malheureusement pour eux, Bianca, loin d’avoir emprunté le parcours tracé par ses parents, est une jeune femme mariée qui se désintéresse du monde qui l’entoure. Comble de l’horreur, voilà qu’Andrea annonce son intention de devenir prêtre. C’en est trop ! Tommaso décide de suivre son fils en cachette afin d’en savoir plus sur ce prêtre particulier qui selon lui a retourné Andrea. Il est bien décidé à le « libérer » de son influence. C’est ainsi que Tommaso fait la connaissance de Don Pietro (Alessandro Gassman). Toutefois, son charisme et son activisme ne laissent pas indifférent le chirurgien athée qui à son contact est amené à revoir certaines de ses positions. D’une manière plus ou moins directe, toute la famille est affectée par une série de changements.

Seeing that, surprisingly, George’s girlfriend is a gorgeous woman, Bryan begs George to help him win over Lisa. George reluctantly does so, teaching him that literature, poetry and, especially, knowledge of Italian, can help Bryan greatly. For his part, Bryan teaches George how to be more open minded. The two forge a strong friendship, cemented by their humorous take on love and literature. An odd assortment of characters pass through the store, commenting on what is happening in the world.

Bryan eventually tries to show George that Susan is not the right woman for him. This will bring the situation to a boil. Is Bryan right? Will George and Susan stay together? Will Bryan win over Lisa’s heart? A series of humorous twists will bring these two characters to understand more about themselves.

A story set in the ‘90s in the Roman suburbs and in Ostia, where Pasolini gave life to his

Antonia is the story of several moments in the life of the great poetess Antonia Pozzi (1912-1938). The film allows one to relive several personal periods in her life that were important for her development as person and artist. To follow and observe her gaze and to understand her creative impulses are tantamount to losing oneself in her universe: the Manzoni high school, the upper middle-class family, being in lovewith her former Greek and Latin teacher and having an impossible relationship with him, the immersion in poetic writing, university and meeting with teachers and friends, sexuality, the passion for mountain-climbing and photography, existential torments, and the tragic epilogue. After her death, Eugenio Montale wrote that she was “a messiah of nature”.

Ferdinando Cito Filomarino was born in Milan and studied film history and theory at the University of Bologna. He directed the short film Diarchy (2010), which earned him several awards. Plot

Salvatore Granata is a rather poor man who lives with his wife, son and daughter in Calabria in Italy. One day Salvatore decides to move to Belgium to work in the coal mine of Waterschei as a “gastarbeider,” an immigrant worker. His family will stay in Italy as Salvatore will only be in Belgium for three years. He hopes to earn much money in a rather small time frame so he can buy a forge for his son Rocco who is now still a 9 year old boy.

After a year, Salvatore decides his family should be with him, so they also move to Belgium. They soon discover the life of a “gastarbeider” is difficult: they have to live in some kind of barracks, they are neglected by the Belgian people and they do not earn much. They are astonished when they hear Salvatore signed a contract of five years and children of “gastarbeiders” ought to work in the mines as soon they leave high school. Rocco meets Helena, the daughter of the local grocer. However, the man is a racist and forbids his daughter to play with Italian boys.

Trama

Sud Italia, 1948. Rocco ha dieci anni quando il padre, Salvatore, decide di emigrare in Belgio per lavorare in una miniera di carbone. L’ambiente grigio della zona mineraria, i gelidi inverni, una lingua e una cultura straniera rendono, però, la nuova vita di Rocco più difficile del previsto.

Contro il volere del padre, il ragazzo cerca una via di fuga nella musica e nell’amore. Rocco seguirà il cuore e la passione per realizzare il suo sogno, diventare un musicista. Il film è ispirato alla vita del famoso musicista Rocco Granata, noto per aver composto la canzone “Marina”.
