Synopsis

The Neighborhood is a story that takes place in Brooklyn NY, about a brash small-time group of hoodlums who have been doing minor crime jobs in their neighborhood since they were kids – from stealing the basket of donations from the church to modern time when they are stealing truckloads of products until they step on the wrong toes and get caught up in a war with an old-school mafia king pin and their lives soon become hell on earth.

Sinossi

The Neighborhood è una storia ambientata a Brooklyn, NY. Parla di un gruppo di spavaldi malviventi che hanno commesso piccoli crimini nel loro quartiere sin da adolescenti, dal rubare il cestino delle donazioni in chiesa, per continuare con furti di più grande entità fino a compiere un passo falso ed entrare in rotta di collisione con un capo della mafia che renderà le loro vite impossibili.

Plot

Pierette, who survived the catastrophic Andrea Doria-Stockholm collision as a 9-year-old immigrating to America with her grandparents, has uncovered a cold case that vindicates Captain Piero Calamai of the Italian luxury liner. She returns to her beloved village of Pranzalito, near Torino, to expose the shocking truth surrounding the collision in time for the 60th anniversary of the tragedy. Pierette invites her village friends and relatives to help her fulfill her dream-produce a docufilm based on her non-fiction book, “Alive on the Andrea Doria! The Greatest Sea Rescue in History”.

Pierette Domenica Simpson, sopravvissuta – quando aveva solo 9 anni d’età – al naufragio dell’ammiraglia della flotta italiana, la splendida nave Andrea Doria, avvenuto dopo lo speronamento da parte del liner svedese Stockholm, ha scoperto un evento che scagiona il capitano della nave italiana, Piero Calamai. Pierette ritorna al paese di Pranzalito, in provincia di Torino, per raccontare la scioccante scoperta in vista del sessantesimo anniversario del naufragio. Pierette invita amici e parenti ad aiutarla a produrre un documentario basato sul suo libro, “I sopravvissuti dell’Andrea Doria ! La più grande operazione di salvataggio della storia”.

Youth detention centre. Daphne, arrested for theft, falls in love with Josh, who is also a young robber. Men and women cannot meet in jail and love is forbidden. Daphne and Josh’s relationship is only based on glances from one cell to the other, short conversations through the bars and secret letters. The prison is not only a deprivation of freedom but it also becomes deprivation of love. Fiore is the story of a teenager’s desire for love and the power of an emotion that breaks every law.

Carcere minorile. Daphne, detenuta per rapina, si innamora di Josh, anche lui giovane rapinatore. In carcere i maschi e le femmine non si possono incontrare e l’amore è vietato: la relazione di Daphne e Josh vive solo di sguardi da una cella all’altra, brevi conversazioni attraverso le sbarre e lettere clandestine. Il carcere non è più solo privazione della libertà ma diventa anche mancanza d’amore. Fiore è il racconto del desiderio d’amore di una ragazza adolescente e della forza di un sentimento che infrange ogni legge.

Centre de détention des jeunes. Daphne, arrêtée pour vol, tombe amoureuse de Josh, qui est aussi un jeune voleur. Les hommes et les femmes n’ont pas le droit de se rencontrer en prison, et l’amour n’est pas permis. La relation entre Daphne et Josh est uniquement basée sur des regards d’une cellule à l’autre, sur des conversations courtes à travers les barres et sur des lettres secrètes. La prison n’est pas seulement une privation de liberté, mais elle devient aussi une privation d’amour. « Fiore » est l’histoire du désir amoureux d’une adolescente et du pouvoir d’une émotion qui est plus forte que toutes les lois.

The most potent solar storm recorded hits Earth,causing power surges and blackouts. A deeper storm rages in the soul of Regina, a lonely spinster called ‘Fräulein’, after a mysterious tourist passes through the gates of her hotel, which has been closed for years. The story takes place at the border between Italy and Austria.

What was supposed to be a fleeting one night meeting, will soon turn into a unexpected coexistence full of surprises. While the two main characters get to know one another and unveil their past, they’ll also help each other in overcoming their fears.

Caterina Carone (Ascoli Piceno, June 20th1982) is an Italian director, screenwriter and documentary film maker. She started her careerworking ondocumentaries, she won the Solinas Prize, the best documentary prize at the Torino Film Festival and a David di Donatello nomination. La più grande tempesta solare che l’uomo ricordi si abbatte sulla terra provocando sbalzi di corrente e blackout. Una ben più profonda tempesta si scatena nell’animo di Regina, scontrosa e solitaria zitella da tutti chiamata “Fräulein”, dopo che un misterioso turista sulla sessantina, uomo smarrito e dal carattere infantile, oltrepassa il cancello del suo albergo chiuso ormai da anni.

La storia è ambientata al confine tra l’Italia e l’Austria. Quello che doveva essere il fugace “scontro” di una notte, si trasformerà ben presto in una tempestosa e sorprendente convivenza. Mentre imparano a conoscersi i due protagonisti si aiuteranno a vicenda a superare le rispettive paure.

Cependant, une tempête plus profonde fait rage dans l’âme de Regina, une vieille fille solitaire nommée Fräulein, suite à la visite d’un touriste mystérieux qui passe par les portes de son hôtel, fermé depuis des années. L’histoire se déroule à la frontière entre l’Italie et l’Autriche. Ce qui était censé être une rencontre éphémère d’une nuit, se transformera bientôt en une coexistence inattendue pleine de surprises. Pendant que les deux personnages viennent à se connaître et dévoilent des aspects importants de leurs passés, ils s’aideront aussi à surmonter leurs peurs.

Italy, 1209, surrounded by convinced and devoted friends, Francis of Assisi seeks purity and innocence among the poor. The Church and Pope Innocent III don’t trust him and become very suspicious. The intrusion of the high authority will create divisions within the order. Francis is summoned by the Church to rewrite the founding text of their brotherhood which will become the Order of the Minor Friars. As Francis becomes blind and moves away from his family, Elie de Cortone, his long-time friend, amends some passages of Francis’ text to satisfy Cardinal Hugolin and Pope Innocent III.

Inverno 1209. Nei boschi dell’Umbria Francesco condivide con Elia Da Cortona ed i suoi fratelli un’esperienza radicale. L’ordine francescano non è ancora riconosciuto dal Papa, e Francesco non è ancora il Santo cui oggi milioni di credenti in tutto il mondo rivolgono le proprie preghiere ma è già seguito da molti credenti. Elia Da Cortona, amico di Francesco da una vita e suo compagno di viaggio, vuole convincerlo ad addolcire la regola di vita affinché venga finalmente riconosciuta dal Papa e possa essere seguita dai fedeli anche dopo la morte di Francesco.

En 1209, en Italie, entouré d’amis et de disciples convaincus et dévoués, François d’Assise recherche la pureté et l’innocence auprès des plus démunis. Il s’attire ainsi la méfiance de l’Eglise et du pape Innocent III. Cette intrusion de la haute autorité va créer des divisions au sein de l’ordre. François est sommé par l’Eglise de réécrire le texte fondateur de leur fraternité qui deviendra l’Ordre des frères mineurs. Alors que François devient aveugle et s’éloigne des siens, Elie de Cortone, son ami de longue date, corrige certains passages du texte de François pour satisfaire le cardinal Hugolin et le pape Innocent III.

New York 1943. Arturo, a Sicilian emigrant, is in love with Flora who is already engaged to the son of a well known New York boss. She loves Arturo though and they would like to get married, but to do so he needs her father’s blessing. The man lives in Sicily and the only way for Arturo to get there is to enroll in the US Army in order to start a journey to the Italian island and take part in the event which is going to change the history of Sicily, Italy and Mafia.

Daisy and Viola are siamese twin sisters on the verge of turning 18, and they live in the suburbs of Naples. The twins have been blessed with beautiful voices, allowing them to perform at weddings, communions and baptisms while make enough money to support both themselves and their entire family. Daisy and Viola are kept isolated from the rest of the world by their own father who just wants to exploits them for income. Their life turns upside-down when one of the twins falls in love for the first time, and they discover that they can be separated. A pronounced English doctor sees them at a first communion in Casertavecchia, and he enables them hope for a possibility to a normal life when he states, “I can separate you.”

Viola e Dasy sono due gemelle siamesi che cantano ai matrimoni e alle feste e, grazie alle loro esibizioni, danno da vivere a tutta la famiglia. Le cose vanno bene fino a quando non scoprono di potersi dividere. Il loro sogno è la normalità: viaggiare, ballare, bere vino senza temere che l’altra si ubriachi, fare l’amore. Potrebbero lasciarsi alle spalle lo sfruttamento che un padre rapace e una madre imbelle fanno dei loro corpi, le superstizioni ataviche di un prete retrogrado, nonché le pressioni di un sedicente produttore discografico interessato più al loro essere freak (e quindi sessualmente diverse) che non alle loro voci.

Daisy et Viola sont des sœurs jumelles siamoises qui ont presque 18 ans. Elles habitent dans une banlieue de Naples. Les jumelles ont été bénies avec de belles voix, leur permettant de chanter à des mariages, des premières communions et des baptêmes tout en gagnant suffisamment d’argent pour soutenir à la fois elles-mêmes et toute leur famille. Daisy et Viola sont isolées du monde extérieur par leur propre père qui veut simplement les exploiter pour l’argent. Leur vie tourne à l’envers lorsqu’une des jumelles tombe en amour pour la première fois. Jonas presents his personal tribute to a culture where the influence and beauty of Opera goes beyond the walls of the theatre. In the small Sicilian village of Pietrammare, the moment has arrived to elect a new mayor. For years, the town has been under the tainted leadership of Gaetano Patanè, who’s ready to use every trick in the book to keep his position and power. His opposition comes in the form of 50 year old Professor Pierpaolo Natoli, with no former political experience, an honest man just wanting to give his 18 year old daughter, Betti, an alternative for her first time voting. Against all odds, and with the help of Salvo and Valentino championing his causes, Pierpaolo wins, and immediately gives start to a new age of legality and respect for the rules in town. Finance ministers from the richest countries in the world have gathered together in a secluded luxury hotel in Germany for a meeting that may decide the future of the world. Bizarrely, three outside observers have also been invited to attend: a rock star, the famous children’s novelist Claire Seth and the Italian monk and author Roberto Salus. Following a tragic event, the meeting is suspended, and a battle between the Ministers and the monk ensues, as they believe Salus was revealed a top-secret information during a confession. While Salus remains the stubborn defender of the secrecy of confessions, the authorities are overwhelmed by doubts and uncertainties.

Roberto Andò – born in Palermo, January 11, 1959 – is an Italian director, screenwriter, playwright and author. Andò debuted as assistant director, working with Francis Ford Coppola, Federico Fellini, Michael Cimino and Francesco Rosi. In 1986 he debuted on stage directing La foresta-radice-labirinto. After several documentary films, Andò made his feature debut film – in 2000 – with Il manoscritto del Principe, produced by Giuseppe Tornatore. In un albergo di lusso sta per riunirsi un G8 dei Ministri dell’ economia dei paesi più ricchi, in cui stanno essere varate delle misure dale gravi conseguenze. Nell’ albergo vi sono anche altri tre ospiti: una celebre scrittrice di libri per bambini, una rock star e un Monaco italiano, Roberto Salus. Les ministres de Finance des pays les plus riches du monde se sont rassemblés dans un hôtel de luxe en Allemagne, pour une réunion qui peut influencer l’avenir de tout le monde. Dans l’hôtel, trois autres individus sont présents : une star du rock, Claire Seth- une célèbre écrivaine de livres pour enfants et un moine italien, Roberto Salus. Suite à un événement tragique, la réunion est reportée à plus tard. Il a écrit « Il Commissario De Luca », basé sur un roman de Lucarelli, et les séries télévisées intitulées « Raccontami ». Plot

Lucia and Maria have known each other forever, two friends that are complete opposites. While Lucia is a very rational and pragmatic person – giving up on men after her divorce, Maria is spontaneous and naïve – and quite addicted to men. Then one night, the perfect man falls into Maria’s bed; he’s charming, sensitive, passionate and mature. The problem is he’s just 19-years-old, so Maria, along with Lucia create a lie, and fabricate a new version of their life. Plot

Giacomo is the heir of an industrial dynasty, but he is more interested in his multiple passions than in managing the company. His life was marked by the death of his father when he was just a child. Plot

Marco is 35, and works at a factory in Udine, Northern Italy to be there and nurse his ailing father. Borgobello graduated from Victorian College of the Arts in 2002. As well as directing commercials, she has made well-received shorts such as Claudia’s Shadow and The Gift which
have screened at festivals such as Tribeca Film Festival, Flickerfest and Interfilm Berlin. Borgobello’s first feature is the result of eight years of hard work and persistence. Originally she intended The Space Between to be shot and set in Australia, but after spending time in Italy developing the screenplay, she decided to shoot around Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Trama

Il protagonista è Marco, un trentacinquenne che lavora presso una fabbrica di Udine. Il suo lavoro però non lo gratifica, anche perché preferirebbe fare il cuoco. La crisi economica italiana però lo costringe a non poter cambiare vita. Ha molte donne, ma mai una storia fissa. Tutto cambia quando muore il suo migliore amico Claudio; Marco prende in gestione la sua libreria, cercando di salvare l’attività. Proprio lì incontra Olivia, una ragazza australiana che vive di sogni e si trova in Italia per far visita ai parenti friulani.  Tra i due c’è subito intesa, visto che entrambi cercano un “loro posto nella vita”. Scoppia l’amore, ma è tutto molto complicato, visto che vivono in Paesi lontanissimi.

La Borgobello si laurea nel 2002 al Victorian College of the Arts. Il primo prodotto cinematografico della Borgobelloè il prodotto di otto anni di duro lavoro. Plot

The De Martino family have always had motor oil and gasoline flowing in their veins: they have been putting together and racing cars for generations. Mario, the head of the family, is forced to give way to his very young and exceptionally talented daughter Giulia.

Trama

Nelle vene della famiglia De Martino scorrono da sempre olio motore e benzina. Preparano auto da corsa e crescono piloti da generazioni. Mario, il capofamiglia, sarà costretto a lasciare il posto alla giovanissima figlia Giulia, un talento eccezionale, affiancata dal fratello Loris, ex pilota quarantenne totalmente inaffidabile, ma con una straordinaria conoscenza di traiettorie e preparazione dei motori. Insieme saranno obbligati a tornare in pista e vincere, fuggendo dai loro demoni e imparando cosa significhi e quanto sia difficile essere una famiglia.

Enzo Di Mauro is currently producer of Insieme TV, a community and events program airing weekly on the Rogers Network. He is also co-publisher of the monthly newspaper, Panorama Italian Canadian. His media experience bridges four decades, with roots in radio and television. Over the years he has produced original content for OMNI Television Italian Programming, CHIN Radio and TV, and CIAO Radio. Specialized in investigative and political reporting, he has also contributed expertise as Associate Producer for OMNI News. This is his third major documentary production.
