Synopsis

The Neighborhood is a story that takes place in Brooklyn NY, about a brash small-time group of hoodlums who have been doing minor crime jobs in their neighborhood since they were kids – from stealing the basket of donations from the church to modern time when they are stealing truckloads of products until they step on the wrong toes and get caught up in a war with an old-school mafia king pin and their lives soon become hell on earth.

The Neighborhood è una storia ambientata a Brooklyn, NY. Synopsis

Filmed entirely in single frames over a three year period, in 16mm, using pixelization and time-lapse photography, Light Study explores the ecosystems along the Bruce Trail of the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Infused with a proliferation of lakes, wetlands, waterfalls, and wildlife, Light Study instills an appreciation for nature. Here, nature presides over an ephemeral human element, its primordial essence both medium and agent of light’s eternal change.

She has a Master of Arts – Integrated Studies in Cultural Studies from Athabasca University, a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Film and Television from Sheridan College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Film from the University of British Columbia. Synopsis

“Still Fridays” is a short documentary about Vincenzo Pietropaolo’s photography of Good Friday ritual in Toronto’s Little Italy over 46 years. The Good Friday procession is a combination of biblical reenactments with live actors, which depicts stations of the cross. The integration of still and moving imagery would represent the way of sorrows and moments between people in this film.

Synopsis

“Batter Judgment” is a modern fairy tale with horror elements. It tells the story of teenager Julia, who is crazy for pancakes, her favorite snack. One day her best friend Danny tells her an urban legend about her neighbor: the woman eats kids when she gets mad. Julia laughs this story off and when she and Danny go next door to borrow an egg, the woman is very pleasant. She and the neighbor strike a deal that she will pay her back for the egg in pancakes. However, Julia’s greed gets the best of her and she eats all the pancakes she makes…

“Batter Judgment” è una favola moderna intessuta di elementi horror. È la storia di un’adolescente, Julia, che va pazza per le frittelle, la sua merenda preferita. Un bel giorno il suo migliore amico Danny le racconta una leggenda urbana sulla sua vicina di casa: mangia i bambini quando si arrabbia. Julia se la ride, e quando si recano dalla donna per farsi prestare un uovo, la trovano gentile e sorridente. I ragazzi e la donna stringono un patto: le restituiranno delle frittelle in cambio dell’uovo. Ma Julia non riesce a vincere la sua gola, e mangia tutte le frittelle. Julia e Danny tornano dalla donna e cercano di imbrogliarla dandole una scatola di toast: la donna si arrabbia e cattura Julia. Danny, nascosto dietro un albero, vedendo la sua amica in pericolo, si precipita nella casa. Trova Julia, che riesce a fuggire, ma viene a sua volta catturato.

Plot

Noelle Elia is a multi-media artist who takes us on a voyage of discovery. She tells the story of Franco Grosso and Mariano Elia, two immigrants who left southern Italy for a new life in Canada. Franco stayed close to his Italian roots and was known as the ‘original popcorn man’. Mariano arrived as a 12 year-old boy who spoke no English but went on to become one of Canada’s top builders and a philanthropist. These two men never met, but they had Noelle in common – she is Mariano’s grand-daughter, and Franco’s friend. In this film, through her memories and a voyage back to Italy, she creates a portrait of Canada’s changing face of diversity.

Shadow Pleasures, a series of Bravo Fact shorts including The Cinnamon Peeler, Tropical Rumours, The Nine Sentiments, and Power, was a critically acclaimed work that aired on CBC and was heralded at festivals and won many awards.

Noelle Elia è un’artista multimediale che intraprende un viaggio. Ci racconta la storia di Franco Grosso e Mariano Elia, due immigrati italiani giunti in Canada alla ricerca di un futuro migliore. Franco resta vicino alle sue origini italiane, conosciuto da tutti come ‘l’originale uomo dei popcorn’. Mariano arriva in Canada all’età di 12 anni, non parla l’inglese ma lavora duro e con il tempo diventa uno dei costruttori e filantropi più noti nel Paese. Questi due uomini non si incontrano, ma la nostra protagonista li accomuna, nipote di Mariano e amica di Franco. In questo film Noelle dipinge un ritratto della realtà canadese in costante cambiamento, attraverso i suoi ricordi e un viaggio che la riporta in Italia.

Enzo Di Mauro is currently producer of Insieme TV, a community and events program airing weekly on the Rogers Network. He is also co-publisher of the monthly newspaper, Panorama Italian Canadian. His media experience bridges four decades, with roots in radio and television. Over the years he has produced original content for OMNI Television Italian Programming, CHIN Radio and TV, and CIAO Radio. Specialized in investigative and political reporting, he has also contributed expertise as Associate Producer for OMNI News. This is his third major documentary production.
