Plot
In the 1970s, Beirut’s Gaza Hospital was established as the primary medical centre at the crossroads of the Palestinian Sabra and Shatila refugee camps.
Thirty years ago, this building witnessed one of the darkest chapters in Lebanese and Palestinian history – the Sabra and Shatila massacres. Today, the war-scarred building is home to hundreds of Palestinian refugee families.
Drawing on exclusive archival footage of the hospital and interviews with former hospital staff, the film chronicles the history of Palestinian refugees in Beirut and the role this monumental building played in their lives.
Through these unforgettable stories, Gaza Hospital emerges as a symbol of hope and resistance.

Il Gaza Hospital era il secondo ospedale più importante del Libano, uno dei principali luoghi di cura dei profughi palestinesi a Beirut, ma anche dei libanesi più poveri e di immigrati dai vicini paesi arabi.
Per la sua collocazione urbanistica e per la particolare struttura architettonica è stato soggetto e testimone della drammatica storia di Sabra e Chatila, divenendo metafora della storia dei rifugiati palestinesi in Libano e forte simbolo della resistenza di questo popolo.
Struttura voluminosa, il Gaza Hospital domina dalla sua altezza il campo di Chatila. Al suo interno un profondo labirinto di scale e corridoi. Stanze di degenza e corsie sono divenute case, gli occupanti sempre più numerosi una comunità, l’edificio un campo profughi in verticale.
