Plot

Alessandro is a 22-year-old turbulent and ignorant slacker from Trastevere, in Rome. He has lost his mother when he was two, and has become the torment of his father – a peddler in Porta Portese, the local flea-market – who can’t imagine a future for that idle and furious son, and is unable to find the key to his heart.
Giorgio is eighty-five: he is a forgotten poet, who lives in solitude and restraint in a flat on the Gianicolo Hill, with the only help and care of his landlady and neighbor. He is in an early stage of the Alzheimer syndrome: he can still move, but his mind is drifting relentlessly away from the present.
The two live within a stone’s throw from one another, but their paths have never crossed, and couldn’t be more distant. But this story puts them together, when Alessandro is offered to accompany the old man in his afternoon walks, and is forced to accept the job.

He debuted as a filmmaker in 2011 with Easy! which premiered at the 68th Venice Film Festival, winning the prize for best narrative feature. He went on to collaborate with Francesca Comencini,the comedians Ficarra and Picone, as well as Spike Lee, on the script for Miracle at St. Anna. Bruni also taught screenwriting at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia from 2000 to 2010.

Trama

Alessandro è un ventiduenne trasteverino ignorante e turbolento; Giorgio un ottantacinquenne poeta dimenticato. I due vivono a pochi passi l’uno dall’altro, ma non si sono mai incontrati, finché Alessandro accetta malvolentieri un lavoro come accompagnatore di quell’elegante signore in passeggiate pomeridiane. Col passare dei giorni dalla mente un po’ smarrita dell’anziano poeta, e dai suoi versi, affiora progressivamente un ricordo del suo passato remoto: indizi di una vera e propria caccia al tesoro. Seguendoli, Alessandro si avventurerà insieme a Giorgio in un viaggio alla scoperta di quella ricchezza nascosta, e di quella celata nel suo stesso cuore

Nel 2011 esordisce alla regia con Scialla! (Stai sereno) presentato al Festival di Venezia 2011 dove vince il Premio Controcampo per i lungometraggi narrativi. Per questo film, risultato essere il più premiato del 2011, vince il David di Donatello 2012 come Miglior regista esordiente e il Nastro d’argento 2012 per Miglior regista esordiente. Nel settembre 2012 è nominato presidente della giuria della sezione Prospettive Italia dell’edizione 2012 del Festival internazionale del film di Roma. A marzo del 2013 è stato eletto presidente dei 100 Autori, la principale associazione
italiana degli autori del settore audiovisivo.
