Plot

In 1976 a group of low-budget horror filmmakers turn to Italy’s Berberian Sound Studio to work on the sound effects for a gory horror film. Gilderoy, a naive and introverted sound technician, leaves England for the studio to work on horror master Santini’s final film. Gilderoy, an experienced documentary filmmaker, is venturing into his first dramatic foray. He finds himself immersed in a completely new world, one dominated by exploitation and callous manipulation. He slowly becomes a victim of his own personal demons, fed by the letters he receives from his mother and by the violent sounds with which he works.

Peter Strickland

Strickland was born in England. His first feature film, Katalin Varga, was shot as an independent film in 2006 and later went on to win many awards including a Silver Bear in Berlin and The European Film Academy’s Discovery of the Year award in 2009. Katalin Varga screened at festivals throughout the world and was sold in many territories. Prior to Katalin Varga, Strickland made a number of short films and produced several records of abstract music.

Plot

Nel 1976, coloro che producono film horror a basso budget si rivolgono al Berberian Sound Studio, con sede in Italia, per lavorare sugli effetti sonori per un grottesco film d’orrore. Gilderoy, un tecnico del suono ingenuo e introverso, lascia l’Inghilterra per raggiungere lo studio e lavorare all’ultimo film diretto dal maestro dell’orrore Santini. Alla sua prima esperienza nel settore, dopo essersi occupato per anni di documentari, Gilderoy si ritrova immerso in un mondo del tutto nuovo, dove regnano sfruttamento e mancanza di rispetto, e lentamente diventa vittima dei suoi demoni personali, nutriti dalle lettere che riceve dalla madre e dai violenti suoni con cui lavora.

Peter Strickland

Strickland è nato in Inghilterra. Suo film principale, Katalin Varga, è stato girato come un film indipendente nel 2006 ed ha vinto successivamente molti premi come il Silver Bear a Berlino e il premio “The European Film Academy’s Discovery of the Year Award”. Katalin Varga è stato proiettato a diversi festival dappertutto nel mondo ed è stato venduto in molti territori. Prima di Katalin Varga, Strickland ha fatto alcuni cortometraggi ed ha prodotto alcuni dischi di musica astratta.
