“Come diventare grandi nonostante i Genitori”

ICFF Jr. is the annual film programme of ICFF that promotes film as an art form using the platform of Italian Cinema, while providing students (ages 8 to 18) with exposure to International culture and language. The program includes feature films, documentaries, animations and shorts. It provides educators with an alternative teaching method that respects a variety of learning styles.

Starting this year, ICFF Jr. is expanding to include, besides Italian, other languages i.e., Spanish, French, Portuguese and Filipino in its film selection. A primary goal is to establish target audiences (i.e., identify & list participating schools & Boards of Education, expand audiences to include all students studying Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Filipino).

In a multicultural and culturally vibrant environment such as the city of Toronto, film is the perfect medium to facilitate a variety of different learning experiences. This includes media literacy, exposure to international languages and culture and the development of critical and analytical skills for students of all ages in Toronto and GTA. The ICFF Jr. complements Toronto’s multicultural landscape by bringing a selection of films from well established international directors that have received international recognition.

Looking ahead, the ICFF Jr. fosters the development of global knowledge and exposes students to new and engaging experiences. We are aware that our students represent the future cinema audience, directors and actors. Therefore, the ICFF Jr. intends to nurture and inspire tomorrow’s talents.

“L’ami – Il sogno di Francesco” Directed by Renaud Fély and Arnaud Louvet

The mission of ICFF Jr. is two-fold:

1. To use cinema as a tool to enrich students’ analytical and critical skills while learning about key elements of the art of filmmaking. The power of moving images will provide the students with exposure to a real life experience within a multimedia and a multicultural context.
2. To give students the opportunity to develop their knowledge of international languages and culture while enjoying the best of contemporary international cinema. ICFF Jr. gives students the opportunity to have a full cultural experience, not limited to film viewing.

“La Guerre des tuques” directed by André Melançon

The Festival is open to all Toronto and GTA elementary and secondary schools (and from outside, if requested) as well as to youth in the ages of 8-18.

We implement age appropriate programmes to make sure the film is relevant not only in terms of content and message but also in terms of communication and perception for the audience.

The selection will be guided by Toronto educators in order to ensure that the films reflect the interests of a variety of age groups.

We provide educational tools to teachers to enrich the students’ learning experience with each film. These are available on the ICFF website.

The teacher film resource package will comprise of pre-viewing activities and exercises that will introduce students to the cultural and thematic context of each film, as well as post-viewing activities to stimulate further discussion in the classroom.

“Até Que a Sbórnia nos Separe” directed by Otto Guerra e Ennio Torresan Jr. Roteiro

This year ICFF Jr. 2017 take place from May 8 to 13, for a total of six-days of screenings.

Movies are screened at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, Yorkdale Theatre, Richmond Hill and at the Colossus Theatre in Vaughan.

The screenings are all matinées (starting at 10/10:30 a.m.).

Nine films will be selected for the screenings in period. All films come with pedagogical material which will be sent to all participating teachers.

All suggested learning activities will help initiate discussions about the meaning of each film and the art of film-making.

All suggested activities and strategies are based on the Ontario Curriculum which serves as a guide for all prepared educational material.

All movies will be rated by the Ontario Film Review Board.

Film Contest! The big news for the next edition is the contest Schools Teach ICFF Jr.. This initiative allows young people to experience the world of film first-hand and receive the theoretical and practical support necessary to realize their ambitions. This project is part of the educational process and gives kids an opportunity to approach Cinema for the first time, giving them a sense of how that industry operates.

Each school will have the opportunity to enter a Short film which will be judged according to film criteria!
