Into Paradiso

Plot

Alfonso is a Neapolitan scientist, shy and clumsy, who has just lost his job. Gayan is a charming but penniless ex-cricket champion from Sri Lanka who just arrived in Naples and is convinced that he has found Paradise. Alfonso spent his entire life studying cell migration and watching soap operas with his mother. Gayan has traveled, and has known fame, glory and fortune. What do these two men have in common? How is it possible that two people who are so different become permanently tied with one another?

In multi-ethnic Naples, Alfono and Gayan’s destinies cross and they find themselves inevitably sharing an illegally erected shack on the roof of a building in the heart of the Sri Lankan quarter of the city. Amidst this bizarre situation a special friendship grows a bond that will give them the courage to face their destinies and change them forever.

Paola Randi

Paola Randi is a film director and screenwriter. She worked as a Project Manager for 12 years at various international non-profit organizations, helping to introduce women to the world of economics. In 1996, she founded TTR, a quarterly theater and visual arts magazine from which originated the International Theatre Research Festival in Milan. She wrote short stories and screenplays and directed eight works consisting of videos and short films such as Sandokan Dreamin’ and Giulietta della Spazzatura. Since November 2003, she has dedicated herself exclusively to cinema.

Trama

Alfonso è uno scienziato napoletano, timido e impacciato, che ha appena perso il lavoro. Gayan è un affascinante ex campione di cricket srilankese che non ha più un soldo, è appena arrivato a Napoli ed è convinto di trovare il Paradiso. Alfonso ha passato tutta la vita a studiare la migrazione delle cellule e a guardare telenovelas con la madre. Gayan ha viaggiato, ha conosciuto fama, gloria e denaro. Cosa c’entrano questi due uomini l’uno con l’altro? Com’è possibile che due persone tanto diverse vengano a contatto e le rispettive vite si leghino in modo indissolubile l’una all’altra?

In una Napoli multietnica, s’intrecciano i destini di Alfonso e Gayan, che si ritrovano a condividere giocoforza una catapecchia eretta abusivamente su un tetto di un palazzo nel cuore del quartiere srilankese della città. Nel mezzo di questa situazione curiosa nasce un’amicizia speciale, un legame che gli darà il coraggio di affrontare i proprio destini e cambiarli per sempre.

Paola Randi è regista e sceneggiatrice. Lavora come Project Manager per dodici anni presso organizzazioni non profit internazionali a favore delle donne nell’economia. Nel 1996 fonda TTR, trimestrale sul teatro e le arti visive da cui nasce un Festival Internazionale di Teatro di Ricerca a Milano. Scrive racconti e sceneggiature e dirige otto lavori, tra questi Sandokan Dreamin’ (dichiarato Opera di Interesse Culturale Nazionale, vincitore miglior Corto in Luce 2003). Dal novembre 2003 si occupa esclusivamente di cinema.
