Plot
This is the story of Arturo. As child, Arturo is particularly attentive and sensitive to the “criminal oddities” he is used to witnessing every day in his city. In his humorous tone, he tells us how he found himself caught in a double endeavor: he juggles hilariously between his love for beautiful and unattainable Flora, with whom he is madly in love, and a series of Mafia incidents that have struck his life and exploded into the bloody mass murderer season of the ’80s and the ’90s. Over the years, all the characters lead somewhat of a double life consisting of birthday parties, love affairs and career choices on one hand, and of bombing attacks, threats, murder victims and silence on the other. Both as a child and as an adult, Arturo’s challenge is dealing with Palermo’s split reality: finding the right answers to fulfill his heart’s desires as well as his sense of civic responsibility.

Pierfrancesco Diliberto debuted as the assistant director to Franco Zeffirelli (Un tè con Mussolini) (1998) and two years later assisted Marco Tullio Giordana with I cento passi (2000) which won four David di Donatello awards and one award at the Venice Film Festival. In 2013 he debuted as a film director by directing and starring in the film La mafia uccide solo d’estate.
Trama
Il film narra l’educazione sentimentale e civile di un bambino, Arturo, che nasce a Palermo lo stesso giorno in cui Vito Ciancimino, mafioso di rango, è stato eletto sindaco. E’ una storia d’amore che racconta i tentativi di Arturo di conquistare il cuore della sua amata Flora, una compagna di banco di cui si è invaghito alle elementari che vede come una principessa. Attraverso questa tenera ma divertente storia d’amore, il pubblico verrà coinvolto emotivamente negli eventi più tragici della nostra storia recente. Arturo infatti è un ragazzo come tanti altri dell’Italia degli anni ’70 ma, a differenza dei suoi coetanei del nord, è costretto a fare i conti con le infiltrazioni e le azioni criminose della mafia nella sua città. La consapevolezza di Arturo cresce anno dopo anno, ma nessuno lo ascolta. Palermo ha altro a cui pensare.
