Plot
A brilliant university researcher, Pietro Zinni, is laid-off due to university cutbacks in the current economy. To earn a living he decides to design and produce a legal drug to sell on the streets. He recruits his former colleagues; a chemist, an economist, a neurologist and a cultural anthropologist. Despite their impressive scholastic qualifications, they are all living at the margins of society. Just like Pietro, they welcome the opportunity to leave their boring, underpaid jobs to create this special new “smart-drug” to sell on the streets in hopes of helping people. Their endeavors are an overwhelming success, but things get complicated when they earn more money than they know what to do with and get noticed by a serious drug kingpin.

Sydney Sibilia is a screenwriter and director originally from Salerno, Italy. He started his filmmaking career by producing shorts with a childhood friend in his hometown and winning many competitions with the film Iris Blue (2013). After making a few other shorts, Sibilia directed the feature I Can Quit Whenever I Want (2014), an overwhelming success garnering 12 nominations at the David di Donatello Awards.
Trama
Pietro Zinni ha trentasette anni, fa il ricercatore ed è un genio. Ma questo non è sufficiente. Arrivano i tagli all’università e viene licenziato. Cosa può fare per sopravvivere un nerd che nella vita ha sempre e solo studiato? L’idea è drammaticamente semplice: mettere insieme una banda criminale come non se ne sono mai viste. Recluta i migliori tra i suoi ex colleghi, che nonostante le competenze vivono ormai tutti ai margini della società, facendo chi il benzinaio, chi il lavapiatti, chi il giocatore di poker. Macroeconomia, Neurobiologia, Antropologia, Lettere Classiche e Archeologia si riveleranno perfette per scalare la piramide malavitosa. Il successo è immediato e deflagrante, arrivano finalmente i soldi, il potere, le donne e il successo. Il problema sarà gestirli…

Regista e sceneggiatore, originario di Salerno, ha iniziato la carriera producendo cortometraggi in collaborazione con un amico d’infanzia. Con Iris Blue, realizzato nel 2013, ha vinto numerosi premi. Smetto quando voglio è il suo primo lungometraggio. Il film ha riscosso un incredibile successo, assicurandosi dodici nomination ai David di Donatello, nella categoria Miglior Film, Migliore Commedia e Rivelazione dell’Anno.
Résumé
Pietro a 37 ans et il est un chercheur très brillant. Toutefois, lorsque l’université subit des compressions budgétaires, il perd son poste. Que pourrait-il donc faire pour survivre? La réponse est à la fois simple et dramatique : organiser une bande criminelle avec ses anciens collègues qui, malgré leurs compétences, vivent aux marges de la société travaillant dans une station d’essence, faisant la plonge dans un resto, jouant au poker. La macroéconomie, la neurobiologie, l’anthropologie, la littérature classique et l’archéologie seront des disciplines très utiles pour se faire une place dans le monde de la criminalité. Les amis ont un succès immédiat : ils ont l’argent, le pouvoir et beaucoup de femmes… le problème sera gérer toute cette fortunei!

Sydney Sibilia, réalisateur et scénariste de Salerne, commence sa carrière de producteur de courts métrages avec un ami d’enfance. Il remporte de nombreux prix pour Iris Blue (2013). Smetto quando voglio, son premier long métrage, a un énorme succès, recevant 12 nominations pour le prix David (entre autres Meilleur film, Meilleure comédie et Révélation de l’année).
