Plot
Planting tomatoes may seem like a safe activity, but not when it is conducted on land that has been confiscated by the state due to Mafia activity. This land belongs to the local Mafioso Nicola Sansone and is assigned to a group of amateur farmers. Although they are not professionals, they begin working the boycotted land. When they find themselves needing help, they are sent Filippo who has tried to combat the mafia for many years. The only problem is, he has only done so behind a screen. Through his desire to protect the land and the people on it, he will have to face his fears. With the help of Rossana, they work towards their ultimate goal.

Giulio Manfredonia is an Italian film director and screenwriter from Rome. He started his career as an assistant director before making his directoral debut in 2001 with the comedy Se fossi in te. His most recent work, La Nostra Terra, tells the story of a collective who come together to grow organic food on land confiscated from a powerful Mafia boss.
Trama
Nicola Sansone è proprietario di un podere confiscato dalla Sato e assegnato a una cooperative che però non riesce per questioni burocratiche e sottili boicottaggi- ad avviare l’attività. Per questa ragione i soci scrivono a un associazione esperta di beni confiscati alle mafie. Il loro aiuto viene mandato Filippo, un uomo che da anni combatte la mafia da un ufficio, e quindi impreparato ad affrontare la questione ‘sul campo’. Numerosi sono gli ostacoli che Filippo incontra e le paure che deve superare, e spesso deve resistere all’impulso di mollare tutto: lo trattengono il senso del dovere, le strane dinamiche di questa cooperativa di insolite persone cui inizia ad affezionarsi, ed anche Rossana, la bella e determinata ragazza che ha dato il via a tutta l’iniziativa.

Regista, sceneggiatore e montatore, Giulio Manfredonia è un appassionato di tragedie raccontate con il senso dell’umorismo. Inizia la sua carriera come assistente alla regia in Zoo di Cristina Comencini. L’esordio alla regia di un lungometraggio al cinema avviene nel 2001 di cui è anche sceneggiatore. In 2014 Manfredonia è regista per La nostra terra.
Résumé
Dans les Pouilles, une coopérative veut exploiter les terres confisquées à un mafieux, Nicola Sansone, selon les procédures prévues par la loi. Confrontés à de nombreuses difficultés, les membres de la coopérative s’adressent à Filippo, appartenant à une organisation anti-mafia dont le siège se trouve dans le Nord. Filippo, expert en droit, mais sans aucune expérience sur le terrain, se rend compte que les lois sont souvent violées. Malgré tout, Filippo décide de rester dans le Sud, s’attachant surtout à Cosimo, l’ancien facteur, et à Rossana, la belle fille qui a une histoire difficile derrière elle. Cependant, dès que les choses commencent à aller mieux, le tribunal accorde la liberté surveillée à l’ancien patron Nicola Sansone. La mafia va triompher?

Réalisateur et scénariste, Manfredonia a commencé sa carrière comme assistant réalisateur de Luigi et Cristina Comencini, en plus d’avoir collaboré à plusieurs reprises avec Antonio Albanese, son grand ami. Il a réalisé son premier long metrage en 2001, une comédie intitulée Se fossi in te. Son film Si può fare (2008), avec Claudio Bisio, a été un autre grand succès.
