Plot
Francis of Paola, one of the most famous miracle workers in Christian history, was born on March 27, 1417. The celebrations of the 600-year anniversary of his birth coincided with Easter, which culminated in a series of important events throughout the region of Calabria.
On this special day for the entire Calabrian community and for the Christian faith, the Order of the Minims continues its mission, spiritually coinciding with the Jubilee of Mercy. The anniversary was celebrated by hundreds of thousands of faithful people and saw pilgrimages throughout the world, especially Canada. Here a delegation from the Valle del Savuto Socio-Cultural Club in Toronto left for Calabria. Among the components of the Italian-Canadian group was the journalist Enzo di Mauro, whose camera caught the most important moments of the religious events. Di Mauro followed the delegation of the town of Tropea, to the Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Pettoruto, in the city of Santo Stefano di Rogliano and Cosenza.

Trama
Francesco nacque il 27 marzo 1416 a Paola (Cosenza) da Giacomo Martolilla e Vienna da Fuscaldo. Essendo già in età avanzata, i genitori attribuirono la nascita del loro primogenito all’intercessione di San Francesco, e per questo gli diedero il nome del Santo e promisero di rivestirlo dell’abito votivo dei Francescani.
Francesco divenne per Paola un punto di riferimento religioso e sociale, entrando nel cuore della gente che si recava da lui per sottoporgli problemi di diversa natura. L’Eremita era visto, inoltre, come l’unico baluardo in grado di opporsi ai soprusi della corte aragonese, come la persona capace di mettersi dalla parte della gente povera e semplice di quel lembo del Regno di Napoli e di assumere un ruolo di vero “umanista” nell’interesse di chi non aveva voce.
