Plot
A mystical tree, shrouded in religious lore, leads a once powerful lawyer sidelined by a life threatening disease, to remote Sicily to discover the secret of the tree’s medicinal leaves. “The Tree” intersects faith, doubt and belief for all those who come into contact with its unique ability to heal. The film originated from a web blog written by David Healey during a protracted illness as a way to keep his mind engaged. A lover of history and Sicily, Mr. Healey crafted the story from his own personal experience during the depth of his illness, his study of history, and his love of Sicily and his family.

Ante Novakovic directed, co-produced and co-wrote Leaves of the Tree. His short film, “The Fix” in which his brother, Kresh Novakovic starred opposite Assante, was nominated for Best Short Film at the Long Island International Film Expo, the Palm Beach International Film Festival, the Sarajevo Film Festival, the SoHO International Film Festival, and won the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in 2013. In addition to Leaves of the Tree and “The Fix”, Ante has directed the short, “Tammy”, which starred actress Cathy Moriarty and Kresh Novakovic. Ante also directed three episodes of the “Redrum” television series.
Trama
Un albero mistico, avvolto in tradizioni religiose, porta un avvocato un tempo potente ma ora affetto da una grave malattia in Sicilia alla scoperta del segreto delle sue foglie curative. L’albero magico unisce la fede, il dubbio e la credenza per tutti coloro che vengono a contatto con i suoi straordinari poteri curativi. Il film è nato da un blog scritto da David Healey per tenersi occupato mentre lottava con una grave malattia. Amante della storia e della Sicilia, Healey ha imperniato la storia sulle sue esperienze personali nel profondo della sua malattia, i suoi studi storici, ed il suo amore per la Sicilia e la sua famiglia.
