TORONTO’S MAINSTAY ICFF JUNIOR ANNOUNCES ITS 4TH EDITION FILM PROGRAMME
The Italian Contemporary Film Festival [ICFF] Junior is this year taking place over six days between May 9 and 14 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, anticipating the main session of the ICFF [June 9-17, 2016]. Those from last year who are eagerly awaiting this year’s program will be delighted with the lineup of 4 new titles as well as 2 of the audience favourites from previous years:
- MIDNIGHT SUN/ IL MIO AMICO NANUKdirected by Brado Quilici and Roger Spottiswoode [All grades]
- GLADIATORI DI ROMA/ GLADIATORS OF ROME directed by Iginio Straffi [Grades 3 and up]
- CHIAMATEMI FRANCESCO/ CALL ME FRANCIS directed by Daniele Luchetti [Grades 5 and up]
- ASINO VOLA/ DONKEY FLIES directed by Marcello Fonte [Grades 3 and up]
- IL RAGAZZO INVISIBILE/ THE INVISIBLE BOY directed by Gabriele Salvatores [Grades 8 and up]
- IQBAL: BAMBINI SENZA PAURA/ FEARLESS CHILD. DEDICATED TO IQBAL directed by Michel Fuzellier and Babak Payami [Grades 5 and up]
This year ICFF Jr. has consolidated its partnership with the Toronto Catholic District School Board and the York Catholic District School Board, creating initiatives to allow for even more student participation in the following activities: And… Action! – students create a video promo for ICFF Jr.; Show your ICFF Junior – individual students or a team of students to create a promotional poster, the winning class or team join a media professional for a working session; Film Review – students write a review for a film screened at the festival; the winning student will be rewarded with the publication of his/her review on the ICFF website and on a Canadian magazine. ICFF Jr. believes that cinema is a tool that enriches students’ analytical and critical skills as well as it supporting key learning objectives as defined by the Ontario curriculum
TEACHING ACTIVITIES Students attending the film screening learn how to judge films based on their cinematographic merit. There is also pedagogical material for each screening that teachers can use for pre- and post-screening learning activities. CONVERSATIONS WITH DIRECTORS In support of engaging students and allowing for them to learn more about film, directors and other special guests join each screening either in person or via Skype to discuss the films with the audience.
