“Erin go bragh” to our favorite Irish-Italian: the celebrated and award-winning author and screenwriter Margaret Mazzantini, or as she is otherwise known, la Sig.ra Castellitto.Being married since 1987 to and collaborating with her director, actor, and screenwriter husband Sergio Castellito has truly been “una vita contenta”; in fact, the couple has given the middle name Contento to all four of their children.The Castellitos are truly an Italian film industry power couple with films like Non Ti Muovere (Don’t Move) based on the award-winning book by Mazzantini. The very dark, disturbing book became the equally dark and disturbing movie directed by and starring her husband who played Timoteo, a prominent surgeon/debaucher. His co-star is Penelope Cruz in one of the most unflattering roles ever in the history of the movies, Italia, the prostitute.

The couple’s stellar resume also includes the 2015 Nessuno Si Salva Da Solo (You Can’t Save Yourself Alone) and the 2012 Venuto Al Mondo (Twice Born).

Their latest collaboration is the upcoming Fortunata, starring Jasmine Trinca, Stefano Accorsi and Alessandro Borghi.

Following in their footsteps, their oldest son Pietro has evidently caught the acting bug and starred in É Nato Una Star, a comedy about a couple (played by Luciana Littizzetto and Rocco Papaleo) who discover their teenage son has become a porn star.

Mazzantini was born in Dublin, Ireland to Carlo Mazzantini, an Italian writer and artist, and Anne Donnelly, an Irish artist. She spent her childhood around Europe, Spain, and Tangier, until the family settled in Tivoli. In 1982 she graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome.
