Preceding the screening there will be a video interview with the film’s protagonist Alberto Casiraghy immediately followed by a reading of Casiraghy’s Aphorisms by both Casiraghy and Corrado Paina. Poets Rob Marra and Lucio Iacobelli will then each present their own poems live from the stage.

Synopsis

Alberto Casiraghy and Josef Weiss are true bibliophile artists. One in Osnago, the other in Mendrisio, they have been dedicating themselves for years to valuable editorial and typographical activities, still printing with mobile characters, preserving the memory of a perfect ingenuity made of manual skills and technique, but also of inventiveness and poetry. Silvio Soldini gives us a realistic and poetical portrait of these two artists-artisans, who chose one of the oldest professions in a modern world, finding great success and approval.

Silvio Soldini

Born in Milan in 1958, he studies Cinema in New York. He goes back to Milan in 1983 and works on his first feature film in 16mm, Paesaggio con figure. In 1984 he establishes the production society Monogatari and the following year he starts working on documentaries too. In 2000 he makes Pane e tulipani, very successful movie sold around the world.

Proprio come Johannes Gutenberg. Alberto Casiraghy ha trasformato la sua casa di Osnago in una vera “bottega” editoriale: con una vecchia macchina a caratteri mobili stampa piccoli e preziosi libri di poesie e aforismi. Non molto lontano, oltre il confine svizzero, Josef Weiss per realizzare le sue edizioni artistiche unisce la sensibilità del grafico con la tecnica del restauratore. Silvio Soldini restituisce un ritratto insieme realistico e poetico di due artisti-artigiani che hanno scelto di fare un mestiere antico in un mondo moderno, e hanno conquistato il successo più grande.

Silvio Soldini

Nato a Milano nel 1958, a 21 anni frequenta un corso di cinema a New York. Torna a Milano nel 1983 e gira il suo primo mediometraggio in 16mm, Paesaggio con figure. Nel 1984 costituisce la società di produzione Monogatari e l’anno successivo inizia la sua attività anche in campo documentaristico. Nel 2000 realizza Pane e tulipani, venduto in tutto il mondo, che gli frutta consenso di pubblico e critica.
