Plot

Beatrice is a blabbermouth and a so-called billionaire countess who likes to believe she’s in intimacy with world leaders. Donatella is a young quiet tattooed woman, locked in her own mystery. They are both patients of a mental institution and subject to custodial measures.

Paolo Virzì’s new film tells the story of their unpredictable friendship and their escape from the treatment constraints that will become an hilarious and moving adventure of two technically insane creatures, looking for a bit of fun and love in this open-air nuthouse, the world of healthy people.

Paolo Virzì

Raised in Leghorn, Paolo Virzì made his debut in 1994, with La bella vita, awarded with a David for the “Best Debut Director”, where he displayed his exceptional skills in directing actors and dealing with dramatic themes with an ironic and light tone. During his successful career spanning over 25 years Virzì won numerous awards for his intense and entertaining films: in 2014 Il capitale umano, based on a novel by Stephen Amidon, obtained a record 19 David nominations. La pazza gioia was recently awarded Best Film and Best Director David Prizes. He has already started working on The Leisure Seekers, shot entirely in the USA, and starring Donald Sutherland and Helen Mirren.

Trama

Beatrice Morandini Valdirana è una chiacchierona istrionica, sedicente contessa e a suo dire in intimità coi potenti della Terra. Donatella Morelli è una giovane donna tatuata, fragile e silenziosa, che custodisce un doloroso segreto. Sono tutte e due ospiti di una comunità terapeutica per donne con disturbi mentali, entrambe classificate come socialmente pericolose. Il film racconta la loro imprevedibile amicizia, che porterà ad una fuga strampalata e toccante, alla ricerca di un po’ di felicità in quel manicomio a cielo aperto che è il mondo dei sani.

Cresciuto a Livorno, Paolo Virzì realizza il suo primo film, La bella vita, nel 1994, ottenendo il David come Miglior Regista Esordiente, mostrando sin da questa opera il suo talento nella direzione degli attori e nel trattare temi seri con un tocco ironico e leggero.

Nella sua carriera ha vinto numerosi premi: nel 2014 Il capitale umano, ispirato ad un romanzo di Stephen Amidon, ottiene ben 19 nominations al David. La pazza gioia ha recentemente vinto i premi più prestigiosi del David, quello per il Miglior Film e per il Miglior Regista. RÉSUMÉ

Béatrice Morandini Valdirana est une comtesse dite milliardaire, très bavarde et théâtrale, qui aime croire qu’elle est intime avec les leaders mondiaux. Donatella Morelli est une jeune femme tatouée, fragile et silencieuse, qui garde un douloureux secret. Béatrice et Donatella habitent dans une communauté thérapeutique pour femmes avec des défis émotionnels. Elles sont toutes les deux considérées socialement dangereuses. Le film raconte l’histoire de leur amitié inattendue qui conduira à une évasion et à une aventure farfelue et touchante. Béatrice et Donatella sont à la recherche d’un peu de bonheur dans cette maison de fous qui est le monde des personnes (supposément) saines.

Paolo Virzì

Paolo Virzì vient de Livorno. En 1994, il réalise son premier film « La Bella Vita » et remporte un Prix David en tant que « Meilleur Nouveau Réalisateur ». Ce film démontre ses compétences exceptionnelles à diriger les acteurs et à traiter des thèmes dramatiques avec un ton ironique et léger. Pendant sa carrière de plus de 25 ans, il remporte de nombreux prix. En 2014, il réalise « Il Capitale Umano » inspiré par un roman de Stephen Amidon, et obtient un record de 19 nominations aux Prix David. Récemment, « La Pazza Gioia » a remporté les prix les plus prestigieux des Prix David, Meilleur Film et Meilleur Réalisateur.
