The issue of violence against women, which often culminates in murder, rarely dominates the headlines. There is no census, no culture, no proximity or previous experience of violence that triggers a well identifiable cause/effect relationship. The phenomenon crosses a wide ethnic spectrum; it hits in the most unexpected places and spreads, emerging from the marshes of silence only proportionately to the degree of emancipation and freedom reached by women.
