On the Bride’s Side
Io sto con la sposa
November 2013, Milan, a Palestinian poet and an Italian journalist meet five Palestinians and Syrians who fled the war in Syria to Lampedusa, Italy. They decide to help these refugees continue their journey to Sweden, where they will claim refugee status and hopefully start a new life. To avoid being arrested as traffickers, the filmmakers enlist the help of their friends and disguise the group as a wedding party, complete with a fake bride and wedding guests. Together they embark on an emotional and physical journey across Europe, travelling over 3000 kilometres in four days. Along the way, the refugees share their harrowing stories, their dreams and fears, leaving a lasting impact on their benevolent “traffickers”, and on the audience.

The Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) and TIFF celebrate Italy’s most beloved cinematic couple with a retrospective of their work together. Roberto Benigni & Nicoletta Braschi: A Beautiful Life, a film retrospective running from June 4 until June 9, features several in-person events including an onstage conversation about their lives and creative collaboration; joint introductions and Q&A sessions for a selection of the acclaimed films they have made together, including the Academy Award-winning Life is Beautiful (1997).
An Ambassador is a symbol. An Ambassador plays the highest and most prestigious role when two sides connect with each other when coming to an agreement, or for a new undertaking to be initiated through the contribution of different actors. Ambassadors promote, facilitate, foster, and
-most of all- they have a vision. They can see all the potentials hidden in most difficult situations.
Until few years ago, a stream of exchanges of experiences and ideas between Italy and North America through film production was something rarely achieved, let alone specific projects, finalized by the actual production of films. Nowadays, this is a reality in progress thanks to the enthusiasm and the entrepreneurial efforts of Andrea Iervolino.
The Italian Contemporary Film Festival is proud to announce that the Award for “Ambassador of Italian Cinema in the World” will be presented to Andrea Iervolino for his achievements in film production and distribution.

Imagine an unemployed man that practices this skill every day. In his own way, he is a happy man. For a few hours a day he takes on the jobs of people who avoid their life careers to pursue other things. Imagine that our hero has a 20 year old son. This son can play the saxophone like a God. He is a true artist – this makes him very lucky. Finally, imagine a woman whose name is Lucia. She is a restless and wary woman… Continue reading
